Black and white wire ceiling light.
The white wire of the ceiling fan is the main neutral for both the light fixture and the fan motor.
The black wire is the main hot wire which generally comes from the main circuit breaker.
For ceiling fans without lights follow the same step.
Connect the black wires together.
If you only have black wires in your box connect both the non white wires from the fan to the black wires in the box.
This will allow you to add a light kit later on without having to rewire the fan.
The white wires on the fan go to the bundle of white wires.
The other black and white wires are the electrical circuit for the switch.
The black wire goes to the bundle of black wires.
Remember that the hot black or red wire goes to the brass colored screw neutral white to the silver screw.
If your ceiling fan has four wires check their colors again.

So in all there is three wires that were attached to the fan light fixture two black wires and one white.
In this case consider a fan with green ground white neutral blue hot for the fan and black hot for lights wires.
Connect the white wires neutral wires from your fan and ceiling together.

Connect the green wire to your household ground wire copper bare wire.
If you want to run both the light and fan on one switch twist the blue and black wire from the unit together.
